It is our absolute pleasure to introduce Jock Orton as one of the Love Yoga Online yoga teachers who has featured in the first set of stunning yoga videos filmed for the launch of the website. Jock is an Anusara Inspired teacher who lives and teaches regular classes in Cornwall. As well as his yoga practice Jock has 2 gorgeous daughters to keep him busy – Abby (4) is a wonderful addition to some of the LYO filming days – she keeps us all entertained!
Here Jock introduces himself and his discovery of yoga in his own words:
There is a well known saying/cliché, ‘when the student is ready the teacher will appear’ and a more profound saying ‘we all come to healing in our own time’.
Well, both of the above happened to me and with not a little shove from the universe! I came down to earth with (quite literally) a bump in 2000 when I fell down a mountain snowboarding breaking my back in four places and shattering my collarbone. In hindsight, I was obviously not paying enough attention, so this helped me get back on track, by quite literally stopping me in my tracks.
After numerous operations trying to unsuccessfully put me back together again, I thought it wise to take matters into my own hands so I might stand a chance of still being mobile by the time I hit forty.
I had heard that yoga would be good for me as a way to rehabilitate myself and gain some much needed flexibility. This is the part where the clichéd saying comes into play as I moved back to Cornwall around about the same time as Bridget Woods-Kramer, a world renowned teacher, started her Yoga studio in Truro. Having spent the last six years studying and teaching with Bridget I am now a fully qualified Anusara Inspired teacher. Anusara literally means flowing with grace. Flowing between the poses using the breath as the instigator of movement.
You will be able to meet Jock later this year when the LYO website is launched – but don’t worry we won’t make you wait that long before whetting your appetite with one of our yoga class videos – keep watching this space!
